April 14, 2017 — USA Cycling today announced a new partnership with LEOMO, Inc., a developer of innovative sports-based IOT devices, and now the official motion analysis device of USA Cycling and the USA Cycling Team.
LEOMO recently unveiled the TYPE-R, the first in a new category of wearable technologies specifically designed to help competitive athletes and their coaches unlock the power of motion analysis. The TYPE-R, a wearable motion analysis tool for cyclists and triathletes, is currently available in the U.S. as part of an early release program and LEOMO expects to release it to the general public and other markets later in the year. The TYPE-R offers valuable insights that may optimize an athlete’s form, efficiency, and performance, and may also assist in injury avoidance and recovery.
LEOMO will be providing USA Cycling with devices to enable its athletes and their coaches to easily and unobtrusively collect valuable motion analysis data day after day in the same environments they train and compete in, which has not been possible until now. This new partnership further illustrates USA Cycling’s commitment to providing its team with the most innovative technologies in the sport of cycling.
USA Cycling’s Vice President of Athletics, Jim Miller, sees great potential in the technology. “TYPE-R offers insights into the movement that generates the power, not just the power itself. And unlike video analysis, which is very subjective, the data is objective and real to the dynamics of an athlete’s motion. We’re excited to have LEOMO as a partner as we start down the road to Tokyo."
“We’re excited to partner with USA Cycling to provide its coaches with valuable insights into their athletes’ motion and give them a competitive edge,” said Kunihiko Kaji, CEO and co-founder of LEOMO. “For the first time, the TYPE-R will bring the power of motion analysis out of the lab and into their world, filling a void that’s currently missing in their arsenal.”
